Rogers RO3003 costs USD 800–1,200/m² — most factories treat it as a special-order material requiring 3–4 weeks procurement. Riching PCB stocks 0.127mm and 0.254mm as standard inventory. Your prototype lead time starts from DFM approval, not from material procurement.

Why RO3003 — Not RO4350B — Above 20GHz
Rogers RO4350B (Df 0.0037) produces approximately 1.8 dB/cm insertion loss at 28GHz. Rogers RO3003 (Df 0.0010) produces approximately 0.5 dB/cm — 3.6× lower loss over the same path length. Above 20GHz, this difference is not a minor performance factor: over a 10cm feed network, RO4350B loses 18dB vs 5dB for RO3003. RO3003 is the standard choice for Ka-band (26.5–40GHz) and 77GHz designs. For applications below 18GHz, RO4350B is typically sufficient and faster to fabricate (5–7 days vs 7–10 days).
Process Requirements for RO3003
- In-house plasma activation — mandatory for PTFE, within 2 hours of copper plating, not outsourced
- PTFE-specific drill parameters — 40–60K RPM spindle, separate programs from FR4
- Maximum 2 lamination press cycles — Dk stability enforced
- Rogers 2929 bondply in stock — for RO3003 hybrid stackups with FR4 inner layers
- TDR ±10% standard, ±5% available — specify on stackup drawing
- ENIG surface finish standard — flat surface for patch antenna dimensional accuracy
- IPC Class 2 standard, Class 3 on request — for defense and Ka-band radar programs
